BY YONG TAKAHASHI @yctwriter

Is finishing your novel your resolution every year? Do you have dozens of half-filled journals but very few finished projects?

If you need help with inspiration, craft, or finding critique partners, here are 9 ways to achieve your 2022 writing goals.

9 Writing Resolution Tips

1. Submit at least one short story, poem or essay per month to journals or blogs

Keep a log of your submissions in a simple spreadsheet that includes of submission date, title, publication, and the outcome.

2. Set a minimum word count per day or per week

Schedule a block of uninterrupted writing time. Whether it is five minutes or five hours, just be consistent. Use a word counting app like Scrivener or Word Counter.

3. Join a writing challenge

You're not alone! Join fellow writers working toward a common goal. Two resources: The Six-Month Novel Writing Plan and National Novel Writing Month (NANOWRIMO - every year in November.

4. Follow more writer’s organizations and literary journals
